Feasibility Studies
In order to determine if an existing building can or should be restored and renovated for re-use, it is usually necessary to conduct a structural Feasibility Study to determine whether the building is suitable or in a condition that would permit the proposed re-use.
Structural feasibility studies are also conducted to determine whether a building can accommodate an addition or can be incorporated into a larger, new development.
Lawson Elser, Inc. has broad experience in conducting structural feasibility studies on all types of existing buildings, especially historic buildings. A feasibility study will usually include a Structural Investigation in order to gather the information needed to establish the suitability of a building for re-use, especially if the proposed re-use function differs from the original.
We have conducted feasibility studies on many types of buildings including:
- Churches
- Schools
- Historic Structures
- Warehouses
- Courthouses
- Restaurants
- Industrial Facilities.

We can conduct Feasibility Studies for Design-Build and Pre-engineered Building projects as well, to determine the most economical structural system for a given project.
